Vancouver Island

We decided to leave the van in Vancouver and take the ferry to Vancouver Island for a few days. Stayed at a hostel over there for a few nights which was alright, but it didn’t have much atmosphere. The days over there were easy, we’d get up walk around the habour and check out the city, and touristy stuff. Then later on sit down by the water and drink beers before hitting a brew pub or bar.

The last night in victoria there was a metal/rockabilly show that was pretty good. Met a couple dudes at the bar who had been hitchhiking out from montreal and sleeping under bridges, they had a few good stories.

After a few days in victoria I decided I wanted to bungee jump in Nanaimo, and since I knew it would be expensive I figured we could offset the cost a bit by hitchhiking up there. I’ve never hitched anywhere before, so this seemed like it would be a good adventure. We got the city bus all the way to the edge of town and then stood at the side of an on-ramp.

No cars stopped for a while so we moved down the highway a few hunded feet to where all the lanes merged into one. This proved to be a bad Idea cause as soon as we left our old spot two other guys walked out there and got picked up in about 2 minutes.

So we walked back up the on ramp and about 10 mins later a guy picked us up and gave us a ride all the way to Nanaimo. We talked the whole way about becoming a “free man on the land” he was super knowledgeable on the subject. He gave me his website and email but I musta lost it, if I can find it I’ll put it up, cause the guy did some killer graffiti.

Anyways we rolled into Nanaimo and found the hostel we booked(after going to the wrong one). This hostel was really nice, everything was brand new, it was called the Painted Turtle. Naniamo wasn’t bad, walked around the city, they were having a  bathtub race the day after were suppose to leave.

There was live music in the park so we hung out there for a bit, but the place was crawling with pigs so I couldn’t drink my beer.

Next day we caught a shuttle bus to “Wild Parks”, the bungee place. I got registered and paid(and forgot my $10 coupon cause I was too excited), and Jim bitched out cause he didn’t want to get his cast wet or something. He took a video of me jumping but I’m not sure how to upload that just yet.

After that we caught the shuttle back into town and headed over to the ferry after gorging at Wendys. We took the ferry back to north Vancouver. And made our way back to Matt and Rachel’s place.

A night or two later in Vancouver we all went out to a dance/hipster bar/club kinda thing and we got our dance on. I don’t know how to dance, but I know how to drink, so I stuck with what I was good at and ended up getting bombed… along with everyone else.

Anyways Jim ended up having to see a specialist about his hand, then go back again to get a splint, so I decided to head into the USA on my own…
