So I haven’t posted in a long time. Dan’s been keeping on top of shit by writing a bit every day (in a Word doc, not on the blog obviously), but we’ve been slacking on updating this thing. I spent almost a month in Vancouver due to my wrist bullshit, but it’s healing up pretty good now. I can ride around on the bike with a brace on and I usually wear it when I go to bed, but other than that I don’t need to wear it. I do have a sweet wrist brace tan-line now though.
Due to my extended stay in Vancouver, I skipped all of Washinton and met up with Dan in Portland, it’s ok though because I’d been there a bunch of times since my parents lived in Olympia for a couple years. We stayed there for a couple of days, saw some mediocre bands and went to some cool book stores and stuff like that. Then we went down to Eugene and went to this cool bar called Samurai Duck, they seemed to have metal shows every night and the one we went to was some pretty cool death and grind bands. The next night we tried to make it to a Melvins show, but it apparently started at 7 (literally, and they were the only band on the bill) and we didn’t show up until about 8:30, so it was pretty much over. We met a couple of cool dudes from Redding, California at the skatepark in Eugene.
After Eugene we rolled out to the coast where there was a ton of amazing scenary. We don’t really have many photo’s from the last little while since it seems that Dan emits some kind of EMP bullshit or something, every camera put in his hands breaks within a couple of days, but I think Dan posted some from the Oregon coast. We cruised down the coast into California where we stayed in Crescent City, we drank a bunch at a real shitty bar there and sang karaoke with a couple of old punk rock chicks from Seattle.
From Crescent city we went down the coast a little bit more then went inland to Redding. I tried riding the skatepark there for the first time since busting my wrist and I broke my splint, so it was kind of a weak day. We went to a cool punk bar there called Bubba Thrasher’s that had a bunch of microbrew beers on tap and apparently had lots of punk shows but the one that was supposed to be that night was cancelled. After Redding we cruised down to San Francisco and went to a couple of punk shows, then we met up with my homie Chris from San Jose and rode the Alameda skatepark then some street. Chris runs sjbmx.com/ it’s way better than this site, so check it out. Sometime around this point was my birthday so we went to an Oakland A’s game and rented a motel so that we could shower for the first time in ~10 days. The Yankees slaughtered them, unsurprisingly. After that we cruised down to San Jose, drank a bunch of beer with Chris and crashed on his floor. We rode some skateparks in San Jose the next day, then cruised down to Big Sur to meet up with Ryan (who runs Boicott) and Linda.
After meeting up in Big Sur, we drove around for a couple hours looking for a campground, they were all full so we pulled over on some dead road at the top of a huge ridge. It was actually really legit for a ghetto free camping spot. Ryan and I stayed up drinking till the wee hours of the morning catching up. We got up pretty early the next morning and went hiking a bit and ate an awesome lunch that Ryan and Linda cooked in the van, after that we made the daunting drive to L.A where we hung out with some of Ryans pals for a bit before continuing on down to Costa Mesa.
Costa Mesa was a blast, we stayed there for a week while I worked on the Boicott site (it’s coming soon, I swear) and rode lots of bikes. Ryans crew of friends down there is rad as hell we rode and drank pretty much every night and I had probably one of the best weeks of the trip so far down there. We rode a pool on top of a mountain, toured the S & M bikes machine shop (regarded by many as the very best company in BMX), rode some good street and drank at lots of cool bars.
For our final night hanging with Ryan we went to the Bicycle film fest in L.A for their BMX night. I Love My Bicycle is a documentary about FBM bikes which is one of my favourite bike companies (I have an FBM frame at the time of writing this) and it was better than I could expect it was the feature of the night, but the 2 shorts that preceded it were pretty good too, one was about a train trip that Joe Rich and Ruben Alacantera took.
After L.A we started making our way to Burning Man…
I hope that load of shit that I call a post made since, if it didn’t just read Dans posts exclusively. To do that click here, if for some bizarre reason you want to follow my posts specifically, click here.
Analyze why we act this way - in L.A!
